Tottenham Hotspur coach Martin Jol gave credit to Portsmouth's Sol Campbell on Monday after comments from Ahmed Hossam 'Mido' stirred controversy within the Premiership before the two sides met over the weekend. "I think Campbell is one of the best defenders of the last 15 years and everybody respects him," Jol was quoted as saying by Eurosport network. Mido said Campbell was one of the easiest defenders he has ever played against and his remarks fueled even more aggressive reactions during Sunday's game. Emotions seemed still running high at White Hart Lane over Campbell's move from Tottenham to north London rivals Arsenal in 2001. The 32-year-old joined Portsmouth in the summer but he was still abused every time he touched the all against his old side. "I even think that our crowd respects him," added the Dutchman, who was angered by Mido's remarks, describing it at the time as irresponsible and disrespectful. Jol hopes that with his recent comments the whole subject could be buried as soon as possible. "I am not someone who can make the world better. Everybody can make their own decisions and we should leave it in the past," he said.
