Egypt's acting environment minister Manal Awad said on Sunday the country is working to develop a unified national position ahead of the COP30 climate summit in Brazil, building on the outcomes of COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh. Awad, who also serves as minister of local development, held a coordination meeting with officials from the Environmental Affairs Agency and ministry advisors to discuss Egypt's approach to the negotiations and the technical agenda of the summit. She said Egypt, in cooperation with the foreign ministry, is drafting a framework for the negotiation track and the thematic days of COP30. The meeting also reviewed Egypt's role in the establishment of the Loss and Damage Fund agreed at COP27. "The climate agenda is a top priority for Egypt's political leadership under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi," the minister said, reiterating the country's commitment to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement. Discussions focused on adaptation, mitigation, transparency, technology transfer and capacity building, with Egypt stressing the need for developed countries to meet their obligations on climate finance and technical support for developing nations.
