Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on Sunday, reaffirming their countries' strategic partnership and discussing regional security, migration, and economic cooperation. Orbán said he looks forward to hosting Sisi on an official visit to Hungary in 2026. The meeting, held on the sidelines of the Grand Egyptian Museum inauguration, brought together senior officials from both governments to review collaboration in energy, transportation, telecommunications, and education. Sisi praised Orbán's presence at the cultural event, noting that relations between Egypt and Hungary have strengthened considerably since their ties were elevated to a strategic partnership in early 2023. Orbán expressed appreciation for Egypt's role within the European Union and highlighted Hungary's support for Cairo's positions on regional issues. The two leaders exchanged views on key Middle East issues, including Gaza, efforts to enforce the ceasefire, the ongoing Sudan crisis, and strategies to curb illegal migration. The Hungarian premier recognised Egypt's role as host to nearly 10 million refugees and displaced persons from regional conflicts. The conversation extended to the Russia-Ukraine war, with Orbán outlining Hungary's approach toward a peaceful resolution, while Sisi stressed Egypt's commitment to promoting regional stability and diplomacy.
