Egypt has dispatched a specialised medical convoy of 13 doctors along with nearly 1.5 tons of medicines and medical supplies to Sudan's Red Sea State, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Monday. The mission, taking place from 20 to 27 December, is carried out under the directives of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and supervised by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly and Egypt's Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar. The convoy was received by Sudanese health officials and representatives from Prince Othman Digna Referral Hospital in Port Sudan. Governor of Red Sea State Mustafa Mohamed Noor welcomed the Egyptian team, praising Cairo's ongoing support for Sudan and highlighting the Sudanese government's priority to restore and upgrade the medical sector affected by continuing obstacles. The doctors said they were ready to provide medical care, particularly in critical and rare specialties, and pledged to assist as many patients as possible during the mission. In a parallel effort, Egypt's Ministry of Health sent 200 oxygen cylinders to Northern State, with the Egyptian Consulate in Wadi Halfa facilitating their entry into Sudan. The mission comes amid deepening cooperation between Egypt and Sudan. Sudan's Transitional Sovereignty Council President visited Cairo on 18 December, and Sudanese officials recently participated in the Russia-Africa ministerial conference in Egypt. Preparations are also under way for a joint ministerial trade committee meeting in Cairo and for celebrations marking 70 years of diplomatic relations in early 2026. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English
