Egypt's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, has met with Sudanese Health Minister Haitham Ibrahim Awadallah in Cairo's New Administrative Capital to discuss ways to strengthen health cooperation between the two countries, the Egyptian Ministry of Health said in a statement on Wednesday.
The meeting was attended by Sudan's Ambassador to Egypt, Imad El-Din Mostafa, along with senior officials from both sides.
According to the statement, discussions focused on mechanisms to support Sudan's health system, enhance emergency response capacity, and expand joint efforts in combating epidemics and endemic diseases. Abdel Ghaffar reaffirmed Egypt's readiness to provide comprehensive assistance, including 200,000 boxes of infant formula and 200 oxygen cylinders, in addition to cooperation in the pharmaceutical and primary healthcare sectors.
The two sides also reviewed progress on a joint project supporting Sudanese patients with kidney failure who are receiving treatment in Egypt, implemented in coordination with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center.
They further agreed to dispatch a medical convoy to Osman Digna Hospital in Port Sudan, comprising a team of specialised Egyptian doctors to deliver advanced medical and surgical services.
The statement added that both ministers agreed to draft future cooperation protocols aimed at developing Sudan's healthcare services and enhancing technical collaboration between the two ministries, with the goal of strengthening Sudan's health sector amid ongoing humanitarian challenges.
For his part, Minister Awadallah expressed gratitude to the Egyptian government for its continued support to the Sudanese people, praising the deep and historic ties between the two nations. Both ministers emphasised the importance of maintaining coordination and knowledge exchange to further consolidate bilateral health cooperation.
