Egypt sent on Wednesday four military planes carrying 38 tons of medical aid to Sudan to support the country's health sector in its fight against the coronavirus and Hepatitis C, the Egyptian Health Ministry said in a statement. The aid includes 300 oxygen cylinders and 300 oxygen regulators, as well as a shipment of Hepatitis C medicines that are enough to treat 11,000 patients, which is part of the Egyptian presidency's initiative to treat 1 million Hepatitis C patients in Africa, the ministry said. Egypt's Health Minister Hala Zayed, who is also the head of the executive bureau of the Arab League's council of health ministers, ordered sending a shipment of anesthetics and medical supplies worth $200,000 provided by the League of Arab States, the statement said. Zayed is also set to head to Sudan on Wednesday night within the framework of exchanging visits between Egypt and Sudan and enhancing cooperation between their health sectors, the statement said. The statement affirmed that the air bridge between the two states will continue to transport medical aid from Egypt to Sudan and meet any requirements of the Sudanese health system. A statement by the Egyptian army's spokesman explained that the four military planes took off from Cairo East Air Base "to contribute to alleviating the burdens on Sudanese citizens." Sudan has expressed gratitude to Egypt for its support during difficult times, affirming the importance of this aid to the Sudanese health sector, the military statement added.
