Egypt backs Doctors Without Borders' expanded role in Gaza, Sudan relief efforts

Egypt's Ministry of Health and Population has expressed full support for expanding the role of Doctors Without Borders (MSF) in delivering medical and humanitarian relief to Palestinians in Gaza and Sudanese civilians affected by the ongoing conflict.
The announcement came following a meeting on Thursday between Egypt's Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development and Minister of Health, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, and MSF Head of Mission Fabrizio Andriolo in Cairo. The two sides discussed joint cooperation on emergency medical services, refugee healthcare, and humanitarian response coordination, according to an official ministry statement.
"The Egyptian government is committed to strengthening its partnership with MSF in crisis-affected areas," said Health Ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar. "Our goal is to streamline emergency responses and ensure sustainable access to care, particularly in underserved regions."
Minister Abdel Ghaffar praised MSF's rapid-response operations and highlighted the importance of coordinated international support, especially in light of the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in Gaza and Sudan. Egypt has been a key regional hub for aid shipments and the treatment of wounded civilians from both territories.
The talks also explored avenues to bolster healthcare delivery in high-need Egyptian communities, enhance emergency preparedness, and expand MSF's logistical and technical support for refugee health services.
For his part, Andriolo commended Egypt's pivotal role in facilitating humanitarian access and reaffirmed MSF's commitment to expanding cooperation across medical, logistical, and emergency care fronts. He emphasised the organisation's readiness to scale up efforts in response to the worsening crises.
The Health Ministry stressed that enhanced collaboration with MSF forms part of Egypt's broader strategy to support regional stability through humanitarian engagement and public health diplomacy.
