Egypt reaffirmed its firm stance on its historical rights to Nile waters on Wednesday, with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly saying the country is seeking negotiations over the Ethiopian Grand Renaissance Dam with "utmost wisdom and patience." Addressing citizen concerns about the next steps in the dam dispute, Madbouly emphasised that Egypt seeks an agreement with Ethiopia and Sudan on managing the shared water system. "We are working to reach an agreement on the management of the entire water system, particularly the Nile waters, which are shared among the three countries," he said. He added that the Egyptian state remains patient and careful, prioritising national interests while aiming for constructive negotiations. "Egypt will never relinquish its historical rights to the Nile waters and will not compromise on any of its legitimate rights," Madbouly stressed. The remarks echo recent statements by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi during the opening of Cairo Water Week, signalling Cairo's continued commitment to safeguarding its water security amid ongoing regional discussions.
