Egypt participated this week in an informal technical meeting hosted by Britain's Wilton Park Foundation to explore ways to fund the reconstruction and recovery of Gaza following extensive wartime destruction, the Egyptian foreign ministry said Thursday. The three-day meeting, held from 13-15 October and co-chaired by Egypt, the United Kingdom, and Palestine, brought together experts in finance, investment, and development, alongside officials from ministries and international organisations. Discussions centered on innovative funding mechanisms to rebuild Gaza, where over two years of bloody war have left vast destruction and heavy humanitarian needs. Wilton Park, a policy forum affiliated with the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office, has previously convened global discussions on post-conflict recovery and development. The Gaza meeting was part of broader preparations for the Cairo International Conference on Recovery, Reconstruction and Development of Gaza, which Egypt plans to host in the second half of November. According to the foreign ministry, the Cairo conference will seek to mobilise international resources for reconstruction while advancing long-term development and stability in the enclave. Participants in the Wilton Park meeting commended Egypt's efforts to broker a ceasefire in Gaza and its leadership in launching a coordinated rebuilding initiative. Cairo is finalising preparations for next month's conference in coordination with the United States, donor nations, and international financial institutions to build on the momentum generated by Sharm El-Sheikh Summit for Peace and ongoing regional diplomacy to advance Gaza's recovery and lay foundations for lasting peace.
