Egypt and Qatar signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Thursday to expand cooperation in the health sector, covering areas such as public health, medical sciences, and food safety, Egypt's Cabinet said in a statement. The agreement was signed by Egypt's Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar and Qatar's Public Health Minister Mansoor bin Ebrahim Al Mahmoud, in a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly in Cairo. Under the MoU, the two countries will collaborate on the development and modernisation of healthcare systems, the exchange of expertise, and the training of medical and allied health professionals in line with international standards. The pact also provides for cooperation in food safety, including efforts to reduce foodborne diseases, enhance product quality, and facilitate trade in food-related sectors. It further includes collaboration on laboratory testing, public health, patient safety, and healthcare quality. Joint activities will include the exchange of delegations, participation in conferences, and technical training, both in person and online, to build professional capacity in the sector, the statement said. The deal reflects what the government described as the strong and historic ties between Egypt and Qatar and their shared commitment to strengthening cooperation in healthcare and related fields.
