Egypt's Minister of Health Khaled Abdel Ghaffar held talks with Pakistan's Ambassador to Cairo Aamir Shouket to explore ways of strengthening bilateral cooperation in the healthcare sector, as per a Cabinet statement. Abdel Ghaffar expressed appreciation for the longstanding ties between Egypt and Pakistan, and emphasised Egypt's commitment to broadening collaboration in health-related fields to serve shared interests. The discussions covered key areas of mutual interest, including public health initiatives, primary healthcare, medical training, and Egypt's successful experience in eliminating hepatitis C, which it seeks to share with Pakistan. The meeting also addressed support for Pakistan's universal health coverage goals, including early screening and cancer detection programmes, as well as cooperation in vaccination campaigns to combat infectious diseases. Abdel Ghaffar stressed the importance of exchanging medical delegations, with plans to host Pakistani health professionals in Egypt and dispatch Egyptian experts to showcase public health successes on the ground. Ambassador Shouket commended Egypt's efforts in combating epidemics and affirmed Pakistan's interest in expanding cooperation, particularly in epidemic control, healthcare services, and medical system development.
