Egypt's Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met with Mauritania's Health Minister Abdallah Weddih on Tuesday to explore opportunities for enhancing cooperation between the two countries in the healthcare sector. The meeting reaffirmed the strong and historic ties between Egypt and Mauritania, with both ministers expressing a shared commitment to strengthening healthcare partnerships to benefit their respective populations. The discussions focused on key areas, including local pharmaceutical manufacturing, drug registration in line with regulatory standards, and developing medical tourism between the two nations. Abdel Ghaffar instructed officials to facilitate administrative and logistical processes to support these efforts. The two sides also reviewed existing healthcare agreements, discussed the potential for signing new ones, and explored joint cooperation in disease prevention, particularly malaria control, as well as digital health transformation. Abdel Ghaffar invited his Mauritanian counterpart to visit Egypt's Children's Cancer Hospital 57357 to explore collaboration in training, medical protocols, and research. The invitation also includes visits to Egyptian pharmaceutical companies to discuss opportunities for joint manufacturing, technology transfer, and workforce training. Weddih highlighted Mauritania's keen interest in learning from Egypt's experiences in combating hepatitis B and C, implementing health insurance, and delivering advanced medical services.
