Egypt, Armenia explore cooperation opportunities in health sector
Published in Daily News Egypt on 05 - 03 - 2025

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, has met with Armen Sarkissian, Ambassador of Armenia to Cairo, along with his accompanying delegation, to discuss ways to strengthen collaboration in the health sector.
Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, stated that the discussions focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation and reaffirmed both governments' commitment to expanding health partnerships for the mutual benefit of their citizens.
One of the key topics addressed was the reactivation and modernization of existing agreements between the health ministries of both countries. The two sides explored potential areas for training programs and medical expertise exchange to support capacity building in the healthcare sector.
In the pharmaceutical and vaccine sector, discussions centered on the possibility of exporting Egyptian medicines to Armenia and signing bilateral agreements to facilitate trade in this field. An invitation was extended to the Armenian delegation to visit the Egyptian Drug Authority to gain insight into regulatory procedures and streamline the registration and export of pharmaceutical products, particularly through the Egyptian company Vacsera.
To further strengthen cooperation, Minister Abdel Ghaffar directed that a field visit be arranged for the Armenian ambassador to tour Egyptian pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities and witness the advanced technological capabilities within the industry.
The meeting also addressed Armenia's advancements in health insurance and the potential for collaboration in this domain. The Egyptian Minister of Health invited an Armenian health insurance delegation to visit Egypt to study the country's operational mechanisms, challenges, and solutions in managing its health insurance system.
As part of expanding bilateral engagement, both sides discussed organizing a visit for a delegation of Egyptian pharmaceutical manufacturers and healthcare professionals to Armenia in July. This initiative aims to explore business opportunities, facilitate cooperation between Egyptian companies and Armenian medical centers, and boost joint health investments.
Ambassador Sarkissian expressed Armenia's keen interest in strengthening collaboration with Egypt in various healthcare sectors, particularly in pharmaceutical manufacturing, medical training, and knowledge exchange. He also conveyed an official invitation from the Armenian Minister of Health for Minister Abdel Ghaffar to visit Armenia, with the goal of broadening the scope of joint health initiatives between the two nations.
