Published in Almasry Alyoum on 02 - 05 - 2009

Twenty-two suspected human bird flu cases have been taken to the fever hospitals in 6 provinces throughout the past two days during which some 8,000 birds have been slaughtered.
In Menoufia province, Shebin al-Koum Fever Hospital received Madiha Mohamed Abdel Wahab, 39, after she suffered from the disease's symptoms. Abdel Wahab, a housewife, is suspected to be infected by the bird flu due to her contact with the birds she breeds in her house, Deputy Minister of Health Hisham Atta said.

Damanhour Fever Hospital received five cases yesterday, Mansoura Chest Hospital, seven cases; Tanta Fever Hospital, six cases; Kafr al-Sheikh Fever Hospital, one case; and Damietta Fever Hospital, two cases.
Suez Governor Seif Eddin Galal has prohibited breeding birds at homes and denied live poultry access to Suez from neighboring provinces. In addition, he banned the selling of live poultry.
Adel Abbas, Under-Secretary of Suez Veterinary Medicine Department, said some 2440 birds were slaughtered last Thursday in an extensive campaign.

In Fayoum, the Supply Control Authority seized 5800 live birds, including 3000 ducks of foreign origins, suffering from difficulty in breathing. In addition, they had no health certificate proving that they are free of the avian flu. They were also slaughtered.
