Zamalek have turned down the transfer request made by Ahmed Hassan as manager Jorvan Vieira is keen to have the Egypt captain on board. Hassan, 37, asked the Zamalek board to leave on a free last month, with one year remaining until his contract with the club expires. “Coach Vieira is keen to have Hassan with the team next season and therefore we did not approve his exit," board member Ibrahim Youssef told Zamalek's website. It is understood that Hassan was hoping to join Belgium's Lierse this summer, having been approached several times by the Egyptian-owned outfit. The midfield veteran has been unsettled at Zamalek amid the club's increasingly alerting financial problem, which saw first-team players receive no wages for several months. He also revealed last month that he prefers to spend next season abroad as the future of football in Egypt remains in the balance.
