Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Sunday called for accelerating the expansion of telecom networks, including fifth-generation (5G) capabilities, and pledged full state support for the information and communications technology (ICT) sector as part of efforts to attract investment and create jobs. The president, meeting with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly, ICT Minister Amr Talaat along with top government and security officials, reviewed plans to upgrade network efficiency and widen coverage across the country to ensure high-quality services for citizens, the presidency said in a statement. Minister Talaat told the meeting that since November 2022, 74 outsourcing firms had committed to hiring 60,000 specialists in Egypt, which now hosts more than 260 outsourcing centres, about 190 of them for global companies. He added that 83 electronics design companies are operating in Egypt in 2025, with a goal of reaching 120 by 2028. The president directed the government to step up training and capacity-building initiatives, launch specialised talent hubs, and adopt clear strategies for artificial intelligence, with a focus on research, development, and optimal resource use.
