Out-of-favor striker Sherif Ashraf cut a forlorn figure on the Zamalek bench to join Gouna on Wednesday. Gouna signed the diminutive frontman, who was linked with a host of clubs over the past few weeks, after their forward Gamal Hamza opted not to renew his contract to move to Egyptian champions Ahli. "Zamalek accepted our EGP 1 million offer for Ashraf," Gouna board member Ahmed Al-Seheifi told FilGoal.com. Ashraf joined the Whites in 2007 after his contract with their arch-rivals Ahli expired but failed to establish himself as a regular starter over the past three years. Zamalek coach Hossam Hassan, who took the helm last year, usually relies on a lone striker in Ahmed Gaafar and rarely includes Ashraf in the starting eleven. The 23-year-old scored four goals in the Egyptian Premier League last season but Amr Zaki's return to Zamalek this summer ended any hopes he had of playing regularly. Gouna, one of the few privately-owned clubs in Egypt, survived relegation on the final day of last season.
