Gamal Hamza joined Gouna on a two-year deal after reaching a compromise over his financial demands. Hamza left Zamalek last summer to join German Bundesliga side Mainz but he was released before the January transfer window due to fitness problems. He returned to Egypt and signed a six-month deal with Gouna, where he regained his form and was offered a three-year contract by Zamalek's arch-rivals Ahli.
But after a few training sessions in the preparation camp in Germany, the Egyptian champions announced that Hamza will leave the team by mutual consent. "Hamza found out that there will be a severe competition in his position next season and that it would be difficult to be registered in Ahli's squad for the African Champions League," read a statement on the club's official website. The 29-year-old forward is reportedly approached by his former club Zamalek as well as Gouna.
