Egypt's Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad held talks with Somalia's Federal Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Bashir Jama, on the sidelines of the 20th African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN), hosted in Nairobi, Kenya, from July 14 to 18 under the theme "Four Decades of Environmental Action in Africa: Reflecting on the Past, Imagining the Future." The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation on key environmental issues, including institutional and technical capacity-building to address climate change, combat desertification, and halt land degradation. The Somali minister stressed the need to activate existing agreements and proposed signing a new memorandum of understanding to boost collaboration. The proposed framework would support joint projects in natural resource management, climate adaptation, and the deployment of sustainable technologies.
