Egyptian striker Mohamed Zidan said on Wednesday that he is grateful for his one-year spell at Mainz, stressing that his form last season gave him the opportunity to rejoin Werder Bremen. Bremen signed Zidan from Danish side Midtjylland last summer but loaned him to Mainz where he caught the sights of German media and fans. "During last season, I adjusted to the Bundesliga style through playing for Mainz and that guaranteed me a place at Bremen this year," Zidan told Dubai Sports TV in a phone interview. "Bremen received several offers for me but they decided that I should stay with the team, an option I am very happy with." The 25-year-old player scored during Bremen's 2-1 victory over Hamburg on Tuesday to help his side reach the League Cup final. Manager Thomas Schaaf dished out praise for Zidan after his impressive performance in this game. "Congratulations to Mohamed (Zidan), he was man of the match," Schaaf told reporters after the match. Bremen will play the winners from Wednesday's Bayern Munich and Schalke match and Zidan said his side are ready for either challengers. "Both Bayern and Schalke are big teams but we are as strong as any of them. We are looking forward to win the League Cup whoever our opponents are," he said.
