Egyptian forward Mohamed Zidan has completed a move to Mainz 05 club from Bundesliga leaders Werder Bremen, Mainz said on Wednesday. "We are very pleased that the transfer has finally been completed," Mainz manager Christian Heidel told Mainz's official website. Zidan will put pen to paper on a three-and-half year contract that will see him receiving a reported 2.5 million Euros. Mainz only said the 25-year-old will be with the club until 2010 but refrained from revealing any financial details.
Zidan scored 9 goals for Mainz last year Heidel hailed Zidan who helped Mainz by scoring 9 times in the Bundesliga while on loan from Bremen last season. "I did not fight in such a way ever for a player, but this deal is well worth it," said Heidel. "Zidan proved that he can help us escape relegation. He brings the enthusiasm and determination that we lacked in the first half of this season," the manager added. Zidan, who joined Bremen in 2004, will begin training with his new team on Friday. Zidan's move from first placed Bremen to last placed Mainz means the Egyptian is more than willing to trade prestige for first team action.
