EETC to complete studying electric feeding system of New Capital monorail in September
Five companies show interest in implementing project, most notably Elsewedy, Schneider

The Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) will finish studying the electric feeding system of the monorail project linking the New Administrative Capital (NAC) to 6th of October city by September.
A source close to the project told Daily News Egypt that the operation of the monorail will need 140 MW.
He added that four high-voltage stations (22/66 kv) will be established, and high-voltage cables will be laid with a total length of 89 km. Medium-voltage cables with a length of 100 km will also be used.
The source pointed out that a high-level delegation from EETC conducted several field visits to the site of the monorail lines to inspect the electricity system of the project. A detailed report is scheduled to be sent to the Minister of Electricity and the Minister of Transportation within weeks.
The government signed a contract for the implementation, operation, and maintenance of the 96-km-long monorail project in August 2019.
The monorail consists of two phases. The first is 42.5 km and starts from the New Administrative Capital to Al Moshir Mosque, comprising 16 stations until May 2022. The second phase will officially start in February 2023, with a length of 11.5 km, and will extend from Al Moshir Mosque to the Stadium Metro Station on the Cairo Metro Line 3, comprising six stations. The 6th of October line is scheduled to open in May 2023, comprising 12 stations, starting from the New October area to the end of the Ring Road in Wadi El-Nil.
The source added that a tender will be issued to companies to implement transformer stations and cables for the monorail's electric feeding system. The companies that have expressed interest in participating include Schneider Electric, Madkour, EGEMAC, and Elsewedy Electric.
Last month, the Cabinet has approved the allocation of EGP 3.448bn to implement the electric feeding works.
