Egypt's Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly has met with Uruguay's President Luis Lacalle Pou on the sidelines of the 17th BRICS summit in Brazil to boost cooperation and trade in the construction, infrastructure, and pharmaceutical sectors, the Cabinet reported on Monday. The two leaders exchanged appreciation for the longstanding bilateral relations dating back to 1932 and emphasised the importance of further strengthening cooperation across mutual interests. Both sides also discussed increasing trade in livestock and agricultural products and broadening cooperation to include fisheries, tourism, oil and natural gas, and green hydrogen, according to the report. Madbouly conveyed greetings from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and highlighted the significance of increasing high-level visits to boost bilateral ties. The meeting also covered Egypt's efforts in Gaza, including intensive communications led by President Sisi aimed at achieving a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. President Luis Lacalle Pou praised Egypt's role in promoting peace, security, and stability in the region and welcomed its mediation in the Gaza ceasefire.
