Egypt's Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly called for bolstering cooperation among BRICS members and focusing on shared interests to confront current global challenges. In his address on the sidelines of the 17th BRICS Summit, in Brazil, Madbouly emphasised the need to strengthen multilateralism and international law in the face of global tensions, highlighting the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and its regional impact on Lebanon, Syria, and Iran. Madbouly said the overlapping crises highlight the urgent need to reinforce the United Nations' role and uphold international law. He also highlighted Egypt's regional efforts in promoting peace and stability, noting its extensive experience in conflict prevention, mediation, and post-conflict reconstruction across both the Middle East and Africa. Madbouly pointed to President Sisi's leadership of the African Union's post-conflict reconstruction agenda in 2019 and Egypt's ongoing hosting of the AU Centre for Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development. Madbouly also praised the role of the Cairo International Centre for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding (CCCPA), which has been active since 1994 in supporting mediation, dialogue, and capacity-building to address emerging security threats and bolster community resilience. The prime minister further stressed that addressing the root causes of conflict — especially by eliminating poverty and achieving sustainable development — is essential to achieving sustainable peace, according to the report.
