Published in Daily News Egypt on 01 - 02 - 2017

Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker held a meeting with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) to receive the latest updates regarding the executive position of the projects that aim to strengthen the performance of the electricity grid to be able to absorb the added capacities of the new power plants being installed in the summer.
Gamal Abdel Rahim, head of the EETC, explained the position of the company's projects and future plans that are being implemented to meet the added capacities in the summer. He also displayed the EETC's projects for strengthening the performance of electricity transmission grids in Upper Egypt and other governorates. The investment cost of the projects that are being carried out registered EGP 29bn.
The implementation of the projects that will support the transmission grids is underway. Projects will strengthen the performance of grids by establishing modern electricity transmission lines, by establishing a new transformer station, and by expanding the existing ones.
Abdel Rahim said that the EETC is working on establishing three transformer stations in Beni Suef Industrial Zone at a voltage of 500/220 KV and a capacity of 450 MV per station. The implementation of stations is expected to be completed in the last quarter of 2017. Transformers of Tamy El Amded and East Ismailia stations are to be implemented during the first quarter of 2018 at a voltage of 200/500 KV and a capacity of 750 MV per station.
He added that the EETC is establishing three transformer stations at a voltage of 220 KV to be completed in the second quarter of 2017.
Expansions are being implemented for various transformer stations at a capacity of 500 and 220 MV: the Suez transformer station at 500 MV, West-Cairo transformer stations at 500 MV, Baltim transformer station at 220 MV, and Obour transformer station at 220 MV, in addition to six transformer stations at 220 MV contracted with Siemens.
Abdel Rahim said that the EETC is renovating lines at a voltage of 220 KV and at a length of 324.5 km. They are also establishing new double cables extending 71 km and single cables extending 0.15 km at a voltage of 220 KV. The company is also establishing new 500 KV lines at a length of 1,210 km.
The EETC also contracted with Elsewedy Electric Company and the Saudi National Contracting Company (NCC) to establish wireless lines extending up to 426 km and at a voltage of 500 KV, renovate lines of 66 KV and a length of 79 km, and establish new cables at a length of 24 km and a voltage of 66 KV.
