NAIROBI: The University of Dar-es-Salaam and University of Twente from Netherlands will be organizing the first of its kind Sensors, Empowerment and Accountability (SEMA) hackathon at the Innovation Space on 12th to 13th May, 2012. The participants will work on inventive solutions for connecting their citizens to information systems in health and water sectors. Some of the challenges in the hackathon are: The using of APIs of Facebook or Twitter to build a simple system that will be able to extract, store and to query as many profile parameters of a subset of users as possible. Another challenge in the event will be the using ODK IVR tools to build a system that can be able to record location and problem definition for water or health services provision. The results will therefore be available through a dashboard similar to Ushahidi or a custom dashboard that picks up ODK-Aggregate harvested data. The event is open to anyone with ideas on how to use software to connect citizens to water and health information and anyone who would like to contribute to solutions that link software and data together.
