The Desert Developing Center (DDC) at the American University in Cairo (AUC) hosts in cooperation with the International Bank ‘Water Hackathon' Marathon on October 21 and 22. The Marathon is a way to exchange thoughts and intensive programs for developers and programming designers worldwide. It aims to find informative solutions for water problems. Water Hackathon is hosted in Cairo in conjunction with the International Water Hackathon in many cities including Bangalore, Kampala, London, Nairobi and Washington D.C. During the competition, the programming teams, technology experts, water resources experts will cooperate in studying water problems and try to come up with technological solutions. After 36 hours of work, each team will present its innovations before the arbitrary committee, including experts in technology and water resources. The team presenting the best solutions will receive valuable prizes. A doctor at the Research department in Desert Development Center, Paul Raw, said during this event they will start working with experts and programming designers who will link their technical skills to help in alleviating the challenges. He assured the Water Hackathon may not find solutions for many challenges the Egyptian infrastructure is confronting. He added he will present solutions for many problems which could be solved through programming and technology. He said the program developers and water experts may probably find ways to operate water pumps through their text messages on their cell phones.
