Egypt's Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 1.5 per cent in September 2025 compared to August, reaching 260.9 points, while annual inflation fell to 10.3 per cent from 11.2 per cent in August, the country's official statistics agency CAPMAS announced on Wednesday. According to the CAPMAS report, the monthly increase was driven by higher prices for vegetables, which rose by 12.2 per cent, fruits by 3.5 per cent, dairy products, cheese, and eggs by 1.3 per cent, meat and poultry by 0.3 per cent. Housing rent increased by 1.3 per cent, hospital services by 1.0 per cent, vehicle purchases by 0.8 per cent, and transport services by 0.5 per cent. However, prices declined for fish and seafood by 0.5 per cent, sugar and sugary foods by 0.8 per cent, cereals and bread by 0.3 per cent, hotel services by 0.7 per cent, and organised tours by 0.5 per cent. On an annual basis, food and beverages rose by 0.3 per cent, led by sharp increases in fruits by 45.2 per cent and oils and fats by 5.2 per cent. Housing, water, electricity, gas, and fuel increased by 18.2 per cent. Furthermore, electricity, gas, and fuel rose by 24.9 per cent, and housing rent by 13.9 per cent. Healthcare costs jumped by 31.9 per cent, transport by 20.9 per cent, telecommunications by 11.0 per cent, education recorded an increase by 10.0 per cent, and miscellaneous goods and services by 12.3 per cent.
