Egyptian candidate Khaled El-Anany has been unanimously elected as the new Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), underscoring Egypt's growing international influence and recognition on the global stage.
El-Anany's unanimous election reflects the world's confidence in Egyptian expertise and its ability to play a leading role in promoting culture and safeguarding humanity's shared heritage, Egypt's Cabinet said in a statement on Monday.
A former minister of tourism and antiquities, El-Anany has long been known for his work in cultural preservation and heritage management, areas central to UNESCO's mission.
