Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Wednesday called US President Donald Trump to press ahead with efforts to end the Gaza war, saying he would welcome the American leader to Egypt to sign a peace deal if talks succeed. Speaking at a Police Academy graduation ceremony in Cairo, El-Sisi praised Trump's "strong will and genuine determination" to end the war, describing his efforts as crucial to halting the fighting, delivering humanitarian aid, and beginning reconstruction for the people of Gaza and the West Bank. El-Sisi confirmed that US envoys arrived in Egypt on Tuesday to meet delegations from Egypt, Qatar, Israel, and Hamas as part of the latest round of ceasefire talks, which he said are taking place in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh. He added that the American delegation brought "a clear message from President Trump" to push for an end to the war in this round of negotiations. "This is a moment that must be seized," El-Sisi said, emphasising that Egypt fully supports all efforts to reach a lasting peace and prevent further escalation. The Egyptian leader noted that the war, now entering its third year, has inflicted severe suffering on Gaza's population and destabilised the broader region. He reiterated Egypt's "consistent and proactive role" in supporting the Palestinian cause and facilitating regional peace efforts. The message comes as negotiators from the US, Egypt, Qatar, Israel, and Hamas are in ongoing discussions in Sharm El-Sheikh, raising cautious hopes for a long-elusive truce.
