Egypt welcomed Belgium's announcement of its intention to recognise the State of Palestine during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, describing it as a historic step that supports Palestinian rights and the people's exercise of self-determination to establish an independent state along the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said the decision, along with similar moves by other states in recent months, reflects broad international support for the Palestinian people and their legitimate aspirations. It also shows the global will to achieve just peace and coexistence in the Middle East, while rejecting Israel's aggressive policies and its government's refusal to pursue peace and attempts to undermine the establishment of a Palestinian state in violation of international law. The ministry added that Belgium's step underlines growing international backing for the Palestinian cause and inalienable rights. Cairo renewed its call on all states that have not yet recognised Palestine to take this step without delay in support of humanity, and to advance the two-state solution and a serious process to restore peace, security and stability across the Middle East.
