Egypt has welcomed US President Donald Trump's assertion that Palestinians would not be displaced from Gaza, calling it a significant stance that aligns with efforts to ease humanitarian suffering and achieve a lasting peace in the region. In a statement on Thursday, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry acknowledged Trump's remarks during his March 12 meeting with Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin. When asked about the displacement of Palestinians amid Gaza's reconstruction, Trump declared, "Nobody is expelling any Palestinians from Gaza." Cairo emphasised the need to build on this constructive position to reinvigorate peace efforts in the Middle East through a holistic approach that guarantees stability and security for all parties involved. Egypt views Trump's initiative to address global conflicts and foster peace—including in the region— as a potential framework for joint action, provided it upholds the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people, particularly their right to establish an independent state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. Reaffirming its unwavering commitment to a just and comprehensive peace, Egypt urged all international and regional stakeholders to redouble their efforts in advancing the peace process, ensuring lasting security, stability, and prosperity for the people of the region.
