Egypt's Sisi calls for unified Arab action, urgent reconstruction of Gaza
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 04 - 03 - 2025

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi reaffirmed on Tuesday Egypt's unwavering stance against forced displacement in Gaza and called on Arab nations to take decisive action in supporting the Palestinian people. He also announced Egypt's initiative to spearhead the reconstruction of Gaza, emphasising that sustainable peace cannot be achieved without a just resolution to the Palestinian issue.
Speaking at the Extraordinary Arab League Summit in Cairo, President Sisi described the current crisis in Gaza as a "stain on humanity" and warned that the destruction unfolding in the besieged enclave is not only a humanitarian catastrophe but also a direct threat to regional stability. He urged the international community to act swiftly to end the bloodshed and prevent further escalation.
Egypt Rejects Forced Displacement of Palestinians
President Sisi reiterated Egypt's absolute rejection of any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians from their land, asserting that such measures violate fundamental human rights and international law. "Egypt will never allow the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza under any circumstances," he declared, underscoring the country's historic commitment to Palestinian sovereignty.
He further condemned the relentless Israeli bombardment of Gaza, which has left tens of thousands dead or orphaned, calling it "one of the darkest chapters in modern history" and a direct assault on human dignity.
A Call for Unified Arab Action
The Egyptian president called upon Arab nations to move beyond mere condemnation and take concrete steps to support the Palestinian people. He stressed the importance of Arab unity in confronting the crisis, urging immediate efforts to secure a ceasefire and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid.
"History will remember our actions today. We must stand together, not just in words but in decisive action, to protect Palestinian lives and defend our shared Arab identity," President Sisi stated.
Egypt to Lead Gaza Reconstruction Efforts
President Sisi unveiled Egypt's comprehensive plan for the reconstruction of Gaza, which will be launched in coordination with regional partners and international organisations. He emphasised that rebuilding Gaza must be done without displacement, ensuring that Palestinians can remain on their land while regaining access to essential infrastructure, healthcare, and education.
He said that Egypt is also committed to training Palestinian security forces to restore stability in the enclave and prepare for the return of the Palestinian Authority's governance. Furthermore, President Sisi invited all nations to participate in a Reconstruction Conference, set to be hosted by Egypt next month, calling it a moral obligation for the global community.
"No Peace Without a Palestinian State"
Addressing the broader regional conflict, President Sisi firmly rejected any notion that lasting peace in the Middle East can be achieved without resolving the Israeli-Palestinian dispute. "There will be no real peace without the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital," he said.
He also condemned Israel's settlement expansion in the occupied West Bank and the repeated incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque, warning that continued violations would fuel instability across the region.
A Final Plea for Justice and Peace
President Sisi concluded his speech by calling on world leaders to step up their efforts in brokering a political solution that ensures justice for the Palestinian people. He cited Egypt's historic peace treaty with Israel as a model for diplomacy, emphasisng that peace must be built through dialogue, not force.
"The cycle of violence cannot continue for another generation. The world has a responsibility to act now – for the sake of peace, stability, and humanity itself," he urged.
With Egypt taking a leading role in diplomatic efforts and reconstruction, all eyes are now on the international community to see whether decisive action will follow the urgent calls made at the Cairo summit.
