CAIRO, August 9, 2018 (MENA) - The Arab League welcomed on Thursday Colombia's recognition of Palestine as an independent and sovereign state with East Jerusalem as its capital. The move makes Colombia the latest Latin American nation to recognise the Palestinian state within the 1967 borders. Speaking to reporters Assistant Secretary General for the Arab League Saeed Abu Ali said this important step reflects Colombia's keenness on supporting the Palestinians and their legitimate rights. It also comes in line with Colombia's ever-known supportive stances of peoples' right to determine their fate and get independence, he added. This step will certainly contribute to creating chances to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, he added. He urged the other countries to recognise Palestine as soon as possible to end 70 years of sufferings and help Palestinians exercise their inalienable rights, foremost among which their right to self-determination.
