Egypt's Supreme Energy Council convened on Thursday to discuss energy requirements for 14 new industrial projects and evaluate electricity capacity upgrades for existing factories, the Cabinet said in a statement. The meeting, chaired by Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister Mahmoud Esmat, brought together several senior officials including the ministers of petroleum, planning, public business sector, and investment. The council reviewed infrastructure and energy supply needs for projects in key industrial sectors, including solar glass manufacturing, chemical production, and mineral extraction from seawater. Proposals also included the relocation and reactivation of an ammonia plant, and expanding production lines at existing sites. Discussions focused on aligning energy provision with Egypt's sustainable development plans and ensuring sufficient electricity and natural gas to meet rising industrial demand. Minister Esmat said the talks are part of the government's broader energy strategy, which aims to boost efficiency, localise industrial technologies, and increase the share of renewables to 42 per cent of Egypt's energy mix by 2030 and 65 per cent by 2040. The council also examined ways to enhance the economic returns of power generation and streamline coordination between energy and industrial sectors.
