Egypt's Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi stated that Egypt is making progress in securing a reliable supply of natural gas to meet domestic demand, especially for electricity and industry, as per ministry statement on Monday. The minister visited the National Advanced Transmission and Automation Centre (NATA) to review gas transmission operations and ensure efficient gas flow from domestic production and three floating regasification units at SUMED and Sonker terminals in Ain Sokhna. Badawi stressed that recent spikes in electricity demand caused by extreme summer heat have been met without disruption, thanks to strategic scenarios and operational manoeuvres implemented to handle emergencies. He noted ongoing coordination between the petroleum and electricity ministries, with joint teams working around the clock to assess and meet the electricity sector's gas needs, largely backed by agreed-upon LNG shipments. The minister reiterated the state's continued commitment to securing the country's fuel and gas needs to ensure energy system stability and support economic development goals, the statement added.
