Egypt's Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi inspected LNG infrastructure developments at SUMED and Sonker ports in Ain Sokhna, as part of efforts to secure natural gas supplies for power stations during the summer peak. At SUMED, Badawi reviewed operations at the berth currently receiving the Hoegh Galleon, where gas is being regasified and injected into the grid. He also inspected a second berth under preparation to receive an additional vessel, a strategic project that has completed construction and is undergoing trial testing. In Sonker, the minister followed up on the horizontal drilling for pipelines and a new 36-inch, 17-kilometre gas import line to serve a third floating regasification unit. Companies GASCO and Petrojet are collaborating on both projects, which include offshore and onshore pipelines and two 16-inch loading arms, among the world's largest. SUMED's facilities are fully operational, while work continues at Sonker to be ready ahead of summer 2025. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English Subediting: M. S. Salama
