Egypt and China signed Thursday a memorandum of understanding to launch their first joint development cooperation strategy for 2025–2029. According to a statement by the Ministry of International Cooperation on Friday, the MoU marks a new phase in bilateral relations and aligning national priorities with China's Global Development Initiative. The agreement was signed by Egyptian Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat and Chen Xiaodong, Chairman of China's International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), during Chinese Premier Li Qiang's official visit to Cairo. The signing ceremony, held at the Cabinet headquarters in Egypt's New Administrative Capital, was witnessed by Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly and Premier Li. The strategy aims to deepen cooperation across priority sectors including healthcare, climate action, green development, digital economy, space, education, and industrial localisation, while encouraging future joint initiatives that support both Egypt's Vision 2030 and China's development agenda. "This agreement reflects the growing maturity of Egyptian-Chinese relations and underscores our shared commitment to inclusive, sustainable growth," Minister Al-Mashat said. She added that the MoU represents a strategic milestone in the long-standing partnership and enhances Egypt's role in regional and global development frameworks. The Ministry of International Cooperation said the strategy builds on Egypt's participation in the Belt and Road Initiative and follows a previous MoU signed during Minister Al-Mashat's participation in the Global Development Initiative meetings in July 2023. The 2025–2029 framework is expected to serve as a roadmap for bilateral cooperation, facilitating the design and implementation of future development projects that reflect mutual priorities and promote long-term economic integration.
