Egypt's Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad held a meeting with Mexico's Ambassador in Cairo Leonora Rueda Gutiérrez to explore ways of strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation in addressing environmental challenges. Fouad highlighted the potential for Mexico to benefit from Egypt's experience in implementing nature-based solutions, particularly given the similarities between the coastal environments of both countries and the shared impacts of climate change. She noted that these solutions offer a cost-effective model for linking the three major environmental conventions while achieving climate adaptation, preserving biodiversity, and ensuring sustainable land use for agriculture and livelihoods. On the bilateral level, Fouad pointed to the possibility of cooperation in sharing Egypt's success story in transforming the longstanding challenge of waste accumulation into a comprehensive waste management system covering all types of waste.
