Egypt's Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad held talks on Wednesday with the Country Director for UN-Habitat Egypt Ahmed Rezk to explore joint projects in waste management, biodiversity conservation, ecosystem restoration, urban mobility, and plastic pollution, according to a Cabinet statement. Discussions included implementing the smart waste management project, SWIFT, in Egyptian cities, starting with Giza, in collaboration with the Green Climate Fund (GCF). The two sides also reviewed progress on the Sustainable Oasis Project in Farafra, supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO). Fouad highlighted potential cooperation in launching a new marine reserve on Egypt's North Coast, while Rezk proposed expanding the Cairo Bike urban mobility initiative to green cities like Sharm El-Sheikh and Hurghada. He also suggested integrating processed plastic waste into road construction to enhance sustainability and reduce environmental impact. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English Subediting: M. S. Salama
