Egypt's Ministry of Health and Population plans to complete the establishment of 15 hospitals within 2024 at a cost of 19.5 billion Egyptian pounds, as part of the first phase of the universal health insurance system in the governorates, said Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar. Abdel Ghaffar made his remarks during the first day of the Africa Health ExCon conference on Monday, adding that the ministry has also upgraded ambulance facilities among 84 projects at a cost of 4.15 billion pounds. The ministry has also raised the efficiency of 5,436 primary health care units and increased the allocations for treatment at state expense to 20 billion pounds, according to Abdel Ghaffar's announcement. Abdel Ghaffar said that one of the main obstacles facing the health sector in Egypt is the growing population, which reached 105 million people, with daily number of births amounting to 5,683 and around 237 births every hour. The largest African Medical conference is endorsed by the Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement, Medical Supply, and the Management of Medical Technology (UPA). The event kicked off on June 6 and will last till June 9, featuring speakers from 90 countries at Egypt International Exhibition Centre (EIEC) Cairo, Egypt.
