Egyptian side Pyramids FC secured their place in the Confederation Cup group stage after defeating Ivorian side Racing Club 2-0 in the second leg of the competition's play-off at Cairo's Air Defence stadium on Sunday. Pyramids also won last week's first leg in Abidjan with the same scoreline to progress with a comprehensive 4-0 aggregate win. Uruguayan striker Diego Rolan opened the scoring after two minutes and in-form winger Ramadan Sobhi doubled the lead with 15 minutes remaining. Pyramids dominated the match despite missing key regulars through injury, including experienced duo Abdallah El-Said and Ahmed Fathi. The big-spending club needed just two minutes to kill off the visitors' slim hopes when winter signing Rolan fired home following a fine cross from Ahmed Mansour. Burkinabe midfielder Eric Traore wasted a chance to make it 2-0 on 18 minutes when he broke clear, only to shoot wide with the goal at his mercy. A drab second half only sprang to life in the 75th minute when Sobhi scored following a superb solo effort, skipping past two challengers and the keeper to slot into an empty net.
