Ahmed Elmohamady mulls departure from Sunderland
Egyptian footballer Elmohamady will consider his future at English side Sunderland if he is not granted more first-team opportunities
Published in Ahram Online on 18 - 04 - 2012

Ahmed Elmohamady said on Wednesday he might leave Sunderland in the summer if he remained out of favour during the remaining four English Premier League games.
The Egyptian right wing-back has fallen down the pecking order, since coach Martin O'Neill took over at Sunderland in December.
The Northern Irish manager has even allowed Elmohamady to take part in Egypt's training camps in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates despite the Premier League's hectic schedule of fixtures.
“I have no problems with O'Neill and I'm not upset with him. He has the right to stick to the line-up which helps him achieve good results,” Elmohamady said in an interview with the CNN's Arabic-language website.
“I spoke with O'Neill before I joined Egypt's training camp in the UAE and he promised to give me chances to play in the remaining league games. Things will be clearer afterwards regarding my future with the team.
“I'm considering leaving the club but I haven't taken a final decision yet. Things might change before the end of the season.”
Elmohamady reiterated that he does not mull a return to the Egyptian Premier League, where he used to play for ENPPI before moving to Sunderland on a season-long loan in the summer of 2010.
The Black Cats permanently signed him the following summer after he made a fine impact at the Stadium of Light.
However, he could not maintain his regular first-team place after former coach Steve Bruce left Sunderland.
“I want to play, I don't want to remain on the bench because that will affect my performance,” the 24-year-old added.
