Egypt will be hit by a nationwide heatwave on Tuesday, likely lasting through to Thursday, with temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celcius in Cairo, the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) told Ahram Online on Sunday. “There will be a strong heatwave starting on Tuesday, reaching its peak on Wednesday, with temperatures in Cairo, for example, reaching 40 degrees Celsius,” said Wahid Seoudi, spokesman for the EMA. Tuesday will mark the 11th day of the holy Islamic month of Ramadan, during which Muslims abstain from drinking and eating from dawn until dusk. Many will find the hot weather increasing the discomfort of their fast. Moderate weather is expected in northern coastal areas on Sunday, while Cairo will be hot, as will Upper Egypt, the EMA said in a statement on Saturday. Cairo is expected to see a high of 36 degrees and a low of 23 low, while temperatures in the coastal city of Alexandria will range from 28 to 22.
