CAIRO: Egyptian policemen and officers at a police station the delta governorate of Sharqia foiled an attempted prison break. The police forces in 10 October City fired into the air to threaten the prisoners, said security sources. Conflicting reports of three injured prisoners could not be confirmed. This is the second prison break foiled Tuesday. The Helwan Police Investigation Unit foiled a prison break orchestrated by 60 prisoners earlier in the day. The prisoners reportedly tried to break out due to an absence of police officers, but overseeing officers thwarted the attempt by opening fire. No injuries were reported. One of the prisoners made a diversion by creating chaos inside a cell and other prisoner called on officers to tend to a prisoner feigning illness. When the cell was opened, nine prisoners pushed police officers out of the way and made an escape attempt. The shouting and commotion alerted other officers who then opened fire, ending the attempt.
