HELWAN, Egypt: The Helwan Police Investigation Unit today foiled a prison break attempt orchestrated by 60 prisoners being held in the Unit's prison. The prisoners reportedly tried to break out due to an absence of police officers, but overseeing officers thwarted the attempt by opening fire. No injuries were reported. One of the prisoners made a diversion by creating chaos inside a cell and other prisoner called on officers to tend to a prisoner feigning illness. When the cell was opened, nine prisoners pushed police officers out of the way and made an escape attempt. The shouting and commotion alerted other officers who then opened fire, ending the attempt.
