QALYOBYIA, Egypt: Prisoners responsible for riots, break-ins, and prison breaks inside Egyptian prisons will be subject to military trials, a judicial source said. The decision was recommended by the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) following a repetition of prison breaks over the past few days, the source added. The SCAF has been charged with Egypt's administration since the resignation of former President Hosni Mubarak on Feb. 11. The decision was also influenced by attempts by thugs to break into and burn police stations in some of Egypt's governorates. Prisoners who attempted to escape from prison will be sent to military trials. Some are also accused of inciting riots in Shubra el-Kheima Prison on Thursday, the source added. Al-Marg Prosecution ordered 40 prisoners to be transferred to the Military Prosecution. The prisoners took police officers as hostages to facilitate their release, but they were arrested by police with the cooperation of the Egyptian armed forces.
