CAIRO: Cautious calm prevails in Cairo's iconic Tahrir Square as the trial of former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak gets underway this morning. Mubarak, his sons Alaa and Gamal, fugitive businessman Hussein Salem, former Minister of Interior Habib al-Adly, and six of al-Adly's assistants are accused of killing demonstrators during Egypt's January 25 Revolution. The Egyptian Central Security Forces surrounded Tahrir Square in preparation in case of potential demonstrations after the trial. Traffic movement in Tahrir is normal. The square is free from any large projection screens so there are no showings of Mubarak's trial, which is being broadcast live on Egyptian television.
