The arrival of Shikabala at Al-Wasl has increased the fan base of the UAE side, according to an Emirate newspaper. Emaratalyoum newspaper indicated that the Zamalek marvel, who joined on a one-year loan in the summer, has raised the popularity of his new club with the help of Egyptians present in the Gulf nation. His fine form and flamboyant skills also prompted some Egyptians there to create a fan-group that egg on Al-Wasl in training and competitive games known as ‘Al-Wasl Lovers'. Shikabala only joined Al-Wasl in the wake of a row with former Zamalek manager Hassan Shehata, which saw the midfielder yell angrily at his boss after being substituted in a continental game. He enjoyed an impressive start to his new adventure though, much to the delight of his new boss Bruno Metsu.
