Egypt have proved that they are the best African team upon winning the Nations Cup for the seventh time, captain Ahmed Hassan said. The Pharaohs won the biennial competition on Sunday after beating Ghana 1-0 in the final. "Our performances and results in the Nations Cup leave no doubt that we are the continent's best team," Hassan told Egyptian radio. The African champions set a new record by winning the CAN title three times on the trot, and extended their overall record to seven. Furthermore, Egypt also extended their unprecedented CAN unbeaten streak to 19 matches. "When we failed to qualify for the World Cup, I felt that we were destined for a bigger achievement," Ahli veteran Hassan added. Egypt were ousted from the World Cup after losing to Algeria 1-0 in November's decider, which was set up after both teams became equal in points, goal difference, goal scored and head-to-head record in the qualifiers. Ironically, Egypt spanked the Desert Foxes 4-0 in the Nations Cup semi-finals last week.
